Adventure in Comfort on Lewa Private Conservancy
Lewa Wilderness is one of Kenya's oldest private safari experiences. For forty years guests have been coming to this remarkable region to be part of an adventure like no other. Those four decades have seen that passion passed down through the Craig family and we proudly continue to run Lewa Wilderness Trails and Lewa Walking Wild today.
Sitting in the shadow of Africa's second highest mountain our climate at Lewa is perfect with warm days and cool nights. Our plains and valleys are full of some of the most endangered animals on the globe and we are delighted to play our part in their survival. It is our unique partnership with local communities that gives a commitment to hospitality and conservation that goes right back to our beginnings in the 1930's.
For all visitors to Lewa Wilderness Trails Lodge and our camel walking operation, Walking Wild, it is a chance to experience some of the spectacular nature close-up in the company of the indigenous guardians of this fine wilderness. We strive to give Kenya to you on your terms, be you an individual, a couple or a family. On Lewa there are a wide range of activities and adventures to discover in both comfort and style.
Above all the Craig family and our small African community offer the warmest of true Kenyan welcomes. We hope very much to have you here at Lewa Wilderness Trails or Walking Wild before too long and to allow you to truly adventure in comfort.
Lewa Wilderness Rooms
We have just nine exclusive rooms: Five are Hill Rooms looking down the Lewa's Western Marania Valley, the other four are Garden Rooms on the lush lawn adjacent to the main living areas. All have a sitting room area with a well stocked bar and open log fireplace, for our frequent cool nights, as well as spacious en suite facilities. We can take only eighteen guests at any one time. The two different styles of room allow our guests a choice.
The Garden rooms at Wilderness Trails are nearest the main areas and are our original rooms which have been updated and modified as the years have gone by. They are built in pairs with private en suite facilities and a shared veranda and sitting room. The layout of these rooms is ideal for a family or those who do not want to walk too far as they are nearer the main facilities. The rooms are flanked and fronted by well kept lawns which give families that extra outdoor space to use. There is a view down to the bush pool and onto the Lewa Wilderness valley beyond. Often children have their own kids dinner here, by the fire, before bed time, and then the baby sitting service takes over to allow parents to join other guests down in the main areas just a 2 minute walk away. As with all our rooms at Wilderness Trails these Garden rooms were built to cater for families and remain very close to the heart of everything that happens here.
The Wilderness Trails Hill rooms have been added most recently to take advantage of the stunning northerly views from Lewa. On a clear day, which is most days, the view stretches away giving a true perspective of just how remote this setting is. Each Wilderness Trails room is quite different in its layout and sleeping configuration and takes advantage of the uneven hill side to form unusual shapes which load them with character. Some rooms have one or two extra beds to accommodate the many families we get here. Every room has en suite facilities and its own private sitting area, bar and veranda. The rooms are a five minute walk from the main buildings of the lodge but remain very much part of Wilderness Trails.
All rooms are fully equipped with hot water for that important wash after a day in the bush and fully furnished with furniture made at our own workshops from local dead wood.
